چکیده

Phosphorus (P), a plant macronutrient, must be adequately supplied for crop growth. In Germany, many soils are high in plant-available P; specifically in arable farming, P fertilizer application has been reduced or even omitted in the last decade. Therefore, it is important to understand how long these soils can support sustainable crop production, and what concentrations of soil P are required for it. We analyzed a 36-year long-term field experiment regarding the effects of different P application and liming rates on plant growth and soil P concentrations with a crop rotation of sugar beet, wheat, and barley. Sugar beet reacted to low soil P and low soil pH levels more sensitively than wheat, which was not significantly affected by the long-term omitted P application. All three crop species showed adequate growth at soil P levels lower than the currently recommended levels, if low soil pH was optimized by liming. The increase in efficacy of soil and fertilizer P by reduced P application rates therefore requires the adaptation of the soil pH to a soil type-specific optimal level.

Assessment the Effect of Different Planting Pattern (Rice-Wheat, Corn-Wheat) and Growth Stage on Soil Chemical Properties

Conducting research on monitoring contaminated fields by heavy metals is necessary in order to achieve sustainable agriculture, increase product quality and keep public health. This study was carried out using split plot experiment based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications during 2014-2015 in Shavor Agricultural Research Center in order to evaluate the effect of croppin...

Manures behave similar to superphosphate in phosphorus accumulation in long-term field soils

Repeated application of manures to agricultural soils could cause the accumulation of phosphorus (P) in soils. However, it is unclear if manure P can behave similar to P in soluble fertilizers in accumulation Olsen-P (0.5 mol L-1 NaHCO3 at pH 8.5) in soils. A long-term wheat-maize rotation experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of repeated application of manures on P accumulation i...

Direct and residual phosphorus effects on grain yieldphosphorus uptake relationships in upland rice on an ultisol in West Africa

Phosphorus (P) deficiency is a major constraint to crop production on highly weathered, lowactivity clay soils in the humid zone of West Africa. Past research suggested a linear relationship between grain yield and P uptake over a range of fertilizer P applied to upland rice cultivars. However, there is lack of information on how these relationships are affected by the long-term fertilizer ...

Levels of Specific Nutrients in Sugar Beet Factory Spent Lime and Their Impact

Spent lime is a by-product of the sugar beet sugar purification process. It is generated by heating mined calcium carbon limestone to form calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. These two products are injected into the thick juice (from the sugar beet processing) and reforms calcium carbonate. When the calcium carbonate reforms it captures or adsorbs many of the impurities in the juice and precipita...
